Global Hunger Fund
Hunger kills more people per year than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.
That simple fact alone is a wake up call for those of us who have never experienced dire hunger. According to the World Food Programme, 795 million people in the world do not have enough food to lead a healthy active life. This is around one in nine people in the world. In sub-Saharan Africa, one person in four is undernourished.
For children, hunger is an even more pressing issue – poor nutrition causes nearly half of deaths in children under 5, which works out to be 3.1 million children each year. One out of every four children’s development is stunted due to malnutrition, and this increases to one in three in developing countries.
Canadian Global Response has embarked on an initiative called the “Global Hunger Challenge” with a goal to raise $1-million by the end of 2017 to address global hunger issues alone.
The Global Hunger General Fund exists to support new projects and existing partnerships in giving access to food for the world’s poorest populations.
