COCHRANE—The Canadian Government has generously offered to provide a matching donation for Canadian donors who have given towards Canadian Global Response since September 12, 2015 for projects responding to the Syrian crisis. The matching dollar program to “Syria Emergency Relief Fund” will be carried out with the government’s trusted partners and procedures, and will end next Monday, February 29, 2016.
Any funds that are received by next Monday towards our Syrian child sponsorship program, Refugee Resettlement Program, and Syria General Fund are eligible for the matching program. CGR will then declare the total amounts given to Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada by March 18, 2016. Further information about the program is provided on the Global Affairs Canada website, with the following quote:
The best way for Canadians to help people affected by the conflict in Syria is to donate money to a recognized Canadian or international humanitarian or development organization that is responding to the crisis. For every eligible dollar donated between September 12, 2015, and February 29, 2016, by individual Canadians to registered Canadian charities in response to the Syria crisis, the Government of Canada will contribute one dollar to the Syria Emergency Relief Fund. The government will use the fund to provide assistance to conflict-affected people from the region through international and Canadian humanitarian and development organizations, using established Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) channels and procedures.
Thank you for your generosity throughout the duration of the government’s matching program. Even as this window of opportunity comes to a close, a timely gift towards one of the above three programs in the next few days maximizes giving impact to those in need.
Canadian Global Response will continue advocating for Syrian refugees and working through local partners after February 29, 2016. Contact the CGR office via email or phone if you or your group have any questions regarding the government’s matching program or our corresponding projects.
